Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled maintenance worker to perform manual labor in support of drainage and road/bridge maintenance across the state highway system.

You will operate medium‑duty equipment, assist with catch basin installations, and coordinate traffic control for safe work zones. CDL training may be required within six months; extended shifts during weather events are possible.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• CDL Class A must be attained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installing and repairing catch basins and drainage structures.
• Operate medium‑duty equipment such as tandem dump trucks, skid steers, and large rollers.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to set up work zones.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12‑hour shifts.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
