Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking applicants for a field maintenance role in the highway program. The position involves manual labor to install and repair drainage structures, and operating medium-duty equipment such as tandem dump trucks, skid steers, and large rollers to support road and bridge preservation.

You will perform vegetation management using tractors with mowers and powered tools, and coordinate traffic control for work zones.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Must obtain CDL Class A within six months of placement.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual labor to install/repair catch basins and drainage pipes.
• Operates medium-duty equipment (tandem dump truck, skid steer, large roller >4 tons).
• Performs vegetation management with tractors and powered tools.
• Coordinates placement of traffic control devices for work zones per SCDOT guide.
• Assists in emergency/inclement weather operations; may work 12-hour shifts.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
