Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a skilled equipment operator to support the highway and bridge program. You will operate excavators, backhoes, dozers, loaders, and other heavy machinery on construction and maintenance projects.

You will also assist with traffic control and safety procedures in work zones. Requirements include one year of related work experience or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or acceptable equivalence.
• Valid driver's license required; Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• May require work outside normal schedule, including inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as excavator, backhoe, dozer, loader, and other heavy machinery for road and bridge construction and maintenance.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices for work zones and ensure safety procedures are followed.
• Assist with demolition, formwork, repair tasks, painting, sandblasting, and other bridge-related work.
• Support emergency or inclement weather operations as needed.
