Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced equipment operator to perform skilled bridge maintenance and roadwork using heavy duty machinery such as boom trucks, snooper trucks, truck cranes, crawlers, backhoes, lowboy tractors and forklifts.

The role may involve leading a small crew, coordinating traffic control, training others, and responding to emergencies or inclement weather.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or equivalent.
• Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Must attain Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• May work extended hours/shifts and in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for bridge maintenance and road work.
• Lead a small crew when required.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices per the manual.
• Assist with training on bridge construction and maintenance.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations.
• Inspect and operate vehicles and report needed repairs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
