Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a capable maintenance worker to perform a wide range of road and bridge maintenance tasks on the state highway system. You will operate heavy machinery, assist with drainage work, and participate in safety inspections and routine equipment maintenance.

Qualifications include at least 1 year of related experience or equivalent, and a valid driver's license with CDL to be obtained within 6 months.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within six (6) months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance on roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate motorized equipment used in highway and bridge maintenance and material movement.
• Operate heavy equipment (e.g., graders, backhoes, dump trucks) for construction and maintenance tasks.
• Perform safety inspections and preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.
• Assist with traffic control setup and working in maintenance work zones.
• Assist in weather-related emergencies and extended hours as needed.
