Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled highway maintenance worker to operate heavy equipment such as backhoes and excavators on state roadways and bridges. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, traffic control setup, and daily logs of work performed.

You may assist in snow removal and inclement weather operations. Preferred candidates have at least one year of related experience, a valid driver's license, and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience is required.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must attain Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment on highways and bridges.
• Perform daily preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Set up and monitor traffic control devices for work zones.
• Record daily work activities and equipment usage.
• Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations, including extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Operate anti-icing and snow/removal equipment during winter events.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
