Job summary

State of North Carolina - Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Technician III (S) to oversee inspections of contracted and force account activities for Highway Maintenance Operations in Wayne County. You will assist with field data collection and supervise technicians on daily operations.

The role involves coordinating emergency response during severe weather, obtaining hydrology data, and ensuring compliance with environmental and erosion control measures.

Qualifications

• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
• Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining engineering concepts.
• Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
• Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage inspections of contracted and force account activities for Highway Maintenance Operations in Wayne County.
• Assist the Engineer with obtaining field data and record keeping of highway maintenance operations; supervise Technicians in the field.
• Assist with management and direction of emergency response during inclement weather and disaster response; participate in storm response activities.
• Obtain hydrology reports by email for failing crosslines and gather MCDC documents before projects; call 811 for locates.
• Acquire certifications including NCDOT QMS Roadway Technician and NCDOT Erosion Control Level II: Site Manager.
