Job summary

NC Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician II to support higher level engineers in highway construction contract administration in Winston-Salem. Responsibilities include monitoring operations, reviewing tests, and ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and permits.

The role requires collaboration with contractors and CEI staff, plus ability to manage related documentation, testing, and field inspections.

Qualifications

Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a valid driver’s license due to required occasional business-related travel.
Must be able to lift 50 lb.
Safety-toed shoes required.
Experience with iPads/tablets, HiCAMS, and SharePlus/SharePoint is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Monitor contractor’s daily operations and ensure compliance with specifications, plans and contract documents.
Perform and review test reports to confirm work and materials meet requirements.
Assist with contract administration duties such as pay records, daily diaries, and monthly quantity verification.
Direct and schedule junior technicians in staking out and inspection to ensure work aligns with contract documents.
