Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) invites qualified applicants for the Engineering Technician III (S) role in the Division of Highways. You will monitor contractor operations, review test reports, and perform contract administration to ensure work complies with plans, specifications, and DBE requirements.

Requires Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field and three years’ technician experience.

Qualifications

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field and three years of progressive technician experience.
Experience inspecting, sampling, and testing materials to ensure compliance with DOT specifications.
Ability to read contracts, plans, standards, and specifications for highway construction.

Responsibilities

Monitors contractor's daily operations and reviews test reports to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and contract provisions.
Performs contract administration duties such as pay records entry/review, material receipt reports, certified payroll, haul tickets, as-constructed plans, and monthly estimates.
Manage and train lower-level technicians including Department employees and contract construction inspectors.
Resolve daily constructability issues and troubleshoot problems to mitigate delays to contractor's progress.
Monitor contractor's relocation efforts by inspecting and tracking relocation work.
Advise supervisor on contract adjustments to improve safety, timely delivery, and quality of delivered product.
