Job summary

State of North Carolina - Department of Transportation Winston-Salem division is seeking an Engineering Technician II to support higher level engineers on highway construction contracts. Responsibilities include monitoring daily contractor operations, reviewing test reports, preparing as-constructed plans, and managing monthly quantity verification prior to payments.

This role requires collaboration with contractors, CEI, and utility owners to maintain safety and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in an applicable area and two years of progressive technician experience
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify
• Knowledge of testing materials to evaluate acceptance or compliance

Responsibilities

• Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and contract documents
• Review test reports to verify conformance of work and materials
• Perform contract administration duties (pay records, reports, daily diaries, quantity verification)
• Assist in utility relocation inspection and tracking
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and owners to minimize delays and maintain progress
• Lead junior technicians and support CEI in project oversight
