Job summary

Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company are seeking a Substation Technician to perform routine maintenance and installation in high voltage substations. The role may be filled at Technician A, B, or Trainee level based on background and experience.

Responsibilities include learning materials handling, operating equipment, basic knots, safety practices, OSHA rules, CPR/First Aid, and progressing toward higher classifications with experience.

Qualifications

• Two-year degree in electromechanical/electronics required; military training may count.
• Work experience in substation maintenance and testing may substitute for the degree.

Responsibilities

• Identify materials, tools, equipment and voltages used in substation construction/maintenance.
• Operate mobile and communications equipment.
• Learn knots, rigging, and tensile strengths of ropes, slings and winch lines.
• Check tools and equipment for wear or damage.
• Follow safety rules, OSHA regulations and First Aid/CPR procedures.
