Job summary

Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company seek a Substation Technician A/B/Trainee to perform routine maintenance and installation in high voltage substations. You will assist higher classifications, learn equipment operation, knots, rigging, and safety protocols.

The role offers growth within substation construction and maintenance, with emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and hands-on skill development across multiple voltage levels.

Qualifications

• Two-year degree in an electromechanical/electronics discipline is required.
• Military electromechanical/electronics training may be considered in lieu of the degree.
• Work experience in substation maintenance and testing may substitute for the degree.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be eligible for a Commercial driver's license (Class A) with air brakes, tankers, and hazmat endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Learn to identify and use materials, tools, equipment and voltages used in substation work.
• Learn to operate mobile and communications equipment.
• Learn basic knots and riggings and tensile strengths of ropes, slings, and winch lines.
• Inspect tools and equipment for wear or damage.
• Develop safety awareness and follow OSHA and company safety rules.
• Learn CPR and First Aid procedures.
• Assist with material deliveries and disbursements.
• Develop skills in time and material accounting procedures.
• Assist coworkers in installation and/or maintenance of equipment.
• Learn to climb and use aerial equipment for advancement.
