Job summary

Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company in Kentucky is seeking a Substation Technician to perform routine maintenance and installation work in high voltage substations. The role may be filled at Technician A, B, or Trainee level depending on background and experience.

You will learn to identify materials, tools, voltages, operate equipment, and climb to access sites, while following OSHA safety rules and developing time/material accounting skills for progression.

Qualifications

• Two-year degree in electromechanical/electronics required.
• Military training may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Experience in substation maintenance and testing may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

• Learn to identify materials, tools, equipment and voltages used in substation work.
• Learn to operate mobile and communications equipment.
• Learn knots, rigging and rope strengths.
• Maintain safety, inspect tools and work area per OSHA rules.
• Assist in installation and maintenance of equipment.
• Develop time and material accounting skills.
• Progress toward higher classifications with proven performance.
