Job summary

First Western is seeking a Mortgage Loan Originator to join our Fort Collins team. You will develop a referral network, assess applicants, and guide loans from application to close, with a strong emphasis on customer service and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of residential mortgage lending experience, an active NMLS registration, and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with a willingness to travel for client engagements.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong understanding of MS applications, database/CRM tools, loan origination application systems and loan pricing engines.
• Solid understanding of mortgage regulatory requirements, including SAFE Act, Dodd-Frank, HMDA, TILA, RESPA, ECOA, Fair Lending, and the Fair Housing Act.
• Demonstrated success in cultivating and maintaining a quality referral network.
• Ability to analyze and calculate income from complex financial data.
• Solid understanding of mortgage loan processing, underwriting, and closing.
• Professional presentation, written and verbal communications skills.
• Detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Develop annual sales goals aligned with office targets.
• Develop referral network through prospecting and community outreach.
• Spend >50% of time away from office soliciting new mortgage business.
• Provide exceptional service by guiding each loan through processing and closing, and communicating updates to all parties.
• Respond to inquiries within 24 hours.
• Meet applicants face-to-face or over the phone.
• Interview applicants to determine appropriate loan programs.
• Present full loan application with documentation to the operations team within 72 hours.
• Complete all disclosures per TILA, RESPA, and MDIA regulations.
• Meet volume goals set by sales management.
• Attend sales meetings and training.
