Job summary

The Rasmussen Group in Des Moines, IA seeks a Heavy Haul Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance, repair, and readiness of a diverse fleet of heavy haul Trucks, trailers, and support equipment. This hands-on leadership role balances shop work with field service and emphasizes safety, reliability, and cost-efficient uptime.

You will develop preventative maintenance plans, review inspections and records, coordinate with operations, manage parts and vendors, and mentor drivers and technicians

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 5+ years of experience maintaining heavy-duty trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, or similar fleet assets.
• Strong experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, air brakes, suspensions, and trailer equipment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to provide and maintain personal mechanic tools.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing maintenance operations for heavy haul trucks, trailers, and support equipment.
• Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, air brakes, suspensions, and trailer components.
• Developing and managing preventative maintenance schedules and inspection programs.
• Reviewing driver inspections, equipment reports, and maintenance records to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
• Responding to roadside breakdowns and coordinating emergency repairs when necessary.
• Making informed decisions regarding equipment readiness, repair priorities, and maintenance strategies.
• Managing parts inventory, vendor relationships, warranty claims, and outside service providers.
• Monitoring fleet performance, maintenance expenses, and equipment reliability.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records and compliance documentation.
• Ensuring compliance with DOT regulations, inspection requirements, and company safety standards.
• Training, mentoring, and supporting drivers and maintenance personnel on proper equipment operation and inspection procedures.
• Collaborating with operations and leadership teams to maximize fleet availability and meet transportation schedules.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting, equipment replacement planning, and capital maintenance decisions.
• Promoting a culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Performing maintenance-related administrative and reporting duties.
