Job summary

Oklahoma Department of Transportation is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for District 3, located in Ada, OK. This full-time role supports maintenance across 13 locations with varying equipment needs and strict safety standards.

Two levels exist: Level II requires 1 year of experience with heavier equipment; Level I is entry-level with no prior experience. CDL requirements may apply, and pre-employment screenings are possible.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment and performing routine maintenance.
• Ability to set up and control traffic safety during maintenance operations.
• Comfort with manual labor and physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment such as trucks, tractors, road graders, dozers, loaders, cranes, backhoes, and other equipment as needed.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Repairs roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
• Repairs or replaces signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
• Provides traffic control using stop/slow signs or flags.
• Applies herbicide to highway rights-of-way.
• Removes debris including tires and other obstacles.
