Job summary

Oklahoma Department of Transportation seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator I II for district Ada, OK, at Johnston County Maintenance Unit. You will operate heavy machinery and perform routine highway maintenance under supervision or with increasing independence.

Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, roadway repairs, traffic control, herbicide application, and debris removal. CDL may be required; pre-employment checks apply and travel may be part of the job.

Qualifications

• Level II requires one year of experience operating heavy equipment.
• Level I requires none.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Level II includes knowledge of operation/servicing of heavy equipment, materials used, traffic control; Level I focuses on safe operation and maintenance of power equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment such as trucks, tractors, road graders, dozers, front-end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, snow removal equipment.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Repairs roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
• Repairs and/or replaces signs, posts, guardrails, and fences.
• Provides traffic control using stop/slow signs or flags.
• Applies herbicide to highway right-of-ways and removes debris.
