Job summary

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator I/II to maintain and repair state highways. The role involves operating trucks, graders, dozers, loaders, cranes and related machinery, performing routine maintenance and assisting in traffic control and safety tasks within District 5 and Beckham, Custer, Jackson, Tillman, Kiowa counties.

Level I requires no prior experience; Level II requires about one year of heavy equipment operation.

Qualifications

• Heavy equipment operation knowledge and safe operation skills.
• Ability to perform manual labor and follow instructions.
• Willingness to travel and perform varied shifts.

Responsibilities

• Operates trucks, graders, dozers, loaders, cranes and other heavy equipment.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment.
• Repairs roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
• Repairs and/or replaces signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
• Directs traffic with stop/slow signs or flags.
• Controls vegetation using herbicides on highway right-of-ways.
• Removes debris from roadways.
