Qualifications

  • Experience operating heavy equipment in a construction environment.
  • CAT 150M grader with GPS experience.
  • Civil site work including grading and earthmoving.
  • Proficiency reading site plans, grades and layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment (scrapers, excavators, dozers, backhoes, track hoes, motor graders) as part of civil construction.
  • Use CAT 150M grader with GPS to grade and earthmove per design plans.
  • Prepare sites including excavation, grading, backfill and compaction for data center infra.
  • Follow GPS/Trimble guidance for precise elevations and alignments.
  • Inspect equipment before/after use and report maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and crew to ensure tasks stay on schedule.
  • Interpret site plans and stakes for accurate operations.
  • Maintain clean, organized work area and follow safety rules.
  • Adapt operations to soil/weather/site constraints to keep productivity.

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator
Job Description

This role operates a variety of heavy equipment to support civil construction and grading activities on a data center project. The Heavy Equipment Operator uses GPS-guided systems to perform precise earthmoving, grading, and site development work while maintaining a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and quality.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a range of heavy equipment, including scrapers, excavators, dozers, backhoes, track hoes, and motor graders, to support civil construction and site development activities.
  • Use a CAT 150M motor grader with GPS to perform accurate grading and earthmoving according to project specifications and design plans.
  • Perform civil site preparation, including excavation, grading, backfilling, and compaction for data center infrastructure and related civil construction work.
  • Follow GPS machine control guidance, including Trimble systems, to achieve precise elevations, slopes, and alignments in grading and earthwork operations.
  • Inspect equipment before and after use, report any maintenance needs or defects, and operate all machinery in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Work closely with supervisors and other crew members to coordinate equipment operations and ensure tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Interpret and follow site plans, grade stakes, and layout information to perform accurate and efficient equipment operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area around equipment and adhere to all site safety rules, procedures, and regulations.
  • Adapt equipment operation techniques to varying soil conditions, weather, and site constraints to maintain productivity and quality.
  • Support general construction activities as needed when equipment is not in use, contributing to overall project progress.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as scrapers, excavators, dozers, backhoes, track hoes, and motor graders in a construction environment.
  • Hands-on experience operating a CAT 150M motor grader with GPS for grading and earthwork.
  • Strong expereince in civil construction and civil site work, including grading and earthmoving activities.
  • Proficiency with GPS-guided equipment operation for precise grading and site development.
  • Ability to read and follow site plans, grades, and layout information while operating equipment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe equipment operation and adherence to site safety procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively on active construction sites and coordinate with other trades and team members.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Trimble GPS experience for machine control and grading operations.
  • Experience working on data center or similar large-scale civil construction projects.
  • Familiarity with a variety of heavy equipment brands and models used in civil construction.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with supervisors and crew members during equipment operations.

Work Environment

The role is based on an active data center construction site within a civil construction setting. You will work outdoors around heavy equipment, earthmoving operations, and ongoing site development activities. The environment involves exposure to varying weather conditions, soil and dust, and typical construction-site noise. You will use GPS-enabled and Trimble-equipped machinery, including motor graders and other heavy equipment, as part of daily operations. Standard construction-site attire and appropriate personal protective equipment, such as hard hats, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear, and other safety gear, are required in all work areas. Work hours follow typical construction schedules and may include extended or varying shifts depending on project needs.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rayville, LA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
