Job summary

Idaho Falls Community Hospital is seeking a Process Improvement Specialist to join our team. This role supports organizational initiatives focused on operational performance, lean methods, and continuous improvement in frontline workflows.

Under the guidance of the operational improvement lead, you will map current processes, conduct root cause analyses, pilot changes, and leverage tools like Cerner, Power Automate, and SharePoint to sustain gains while aligning with patient care priorities.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; current RN license in good standing, BSN preferred; Lean Six Sigma or process improvement training preferred.
• 3+ years of nursing experience, preferably acute care. Experience with process improvement, workflow redesign, or quality initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Perform assigned process improvement work under the direction of the designated operational improvement lead and in alignment with established project priorities, scope, timelines, objectives, and performance measures.
• Conduct gemba walks, workflow observations, staff interviews, and process assessments within assigned departments or operational areas.
• Identify process variation, delays, duplication, rework, communication gaps, inefficient handoffs, unnecessary manual work, and other opportunities for improvement.
• Develop current state and future state process maps to support process evaluation and redesign.
• Participate in Lean Six Sigma and other structured improvement activities, including root cause analysis, solution development, pilot testing, implementation, and sustainment.
• Use operational reports, dashboards, Cerner data, key performance indicators, and other available information to support assigned process investigations and validate frontline observations.
• Assist with monitoring project related performance measures and evaluating whether implemented changes are contributing to intended operational outcomes.
• Engage frontline staff and department personnel within the scope of assigned projects to understand workflow challenges, gather feedback, and evaluate potential solutions.
• Develop or assist with workflow automation and digital process solutions as part of established improvement initiatives.
