Job summary

Savista is seeking an Eligibility Specialist I in Illinois to guide uninsured and underinsured patients through financial assistance programs. You will assess eligibility, help with Medicaid/Medicare applications, and liaise with hospital staff and agencies to secure funding.

The role emphasizes empathy, accuracy, and regulatory compliance. The full-time position requires 40 hours per week with shifts 8:00am–4:30pm, and occasional travel.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in healthcare financial counseling or patient advocacy.
• Willingness to travel 0–15% within assigned market area.

Responsibilities

• Meet with patients in-person to assess eligibility for financial assistance.
• Guide patients through applications for Medicaid, Medicare, disability, and charity care.
• Coordinate between patients, hospital staff, and agencies to determine eligibility and secure funding.
• Manage a high caseload with deadlines and timely follow-up on applications.
• Communicate funding options clearly and empathetically to patients.
• Maintain confidential records in HIPAA-compliant systems.
• Support productivity and quality metrics for financial counseling goals.
• Utilize multiple systems to track and report patient data.
• Assist with vacancy coverage and complete special projects.
