Job summary

Covenant HealthCare in Michigan is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to manage receptionist and unit support duties for an inpatient unit. The role centers on patient flow, admissions, discharges and accurate chart maintenance, with emphasis on customer service and teamwork.

The HUC will collaborate with nurses, physicians and staff, handling documentation, unit communications and regulatory duties, ensuring timely patient information updates and efficient operations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Completion of Medical Terminology course preferred.
• Graduate of Medical Office Professional program preferred.
• Health Unit Coordinator Course preferred.
• One year of healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Remain flexible with 24-hour staffing and scheduling for all inpatient units.

• Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, families and health team members.
• Facilitate admissions, discharges and daily care per Covenant guidelines.
• Attend unit conferences, mandatory education, and annual competencies.
• Record admissions and transfers via patient placement; manage EPIC entries.
• Maintain patient charts and prepare discharge packets; notify RN on rounds.
• Monitor charts and charges; assist with supplies and office materials.
• Ensure smooth patient flow and accurate chart management.
