Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to provide organizational, receptionist and clerical support to patient care units. You will monitor supplies, answer call lights, and relay patient needs to nursing staff while assisting with EHR order management.

Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential, along with flexibility to work days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays in a patient-focused environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills required.
• HUC post-secondary program or certification preferred.
• Minimum of one year working in a medical environment preferred.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
• Familiarity with EHR systems; EPIC preferred.
• Outstanding customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Adapts effectively to unpredictable patient care situations.
• Ability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide organizational, receptionist and clerical support to patient care units and teams.
• Monitor and order supplies and promptly answer patient call lights.
• Elevate patient needs to nursing staff and assist with managing orders in the EHR.
• Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and facility staff via multiple modalities.
• Serve as a resource to healthcare team members and participate in continuous improvement activities.
• Assist in coordinating care and supporting the care delivery model.
