Qualifications

• Experience as HI Assistant or HUC or training in medical records.
• Knowledge of regulations, survey process, documentation requirements and legal issues.
• Understanding of payment systems including Medicare and Medicaid.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Long-term care or healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

• Health Information Security & HIPAA Compliance: safeguard confidentiality, integrity, and security of medical records in compliance with HIPAA and regulations.
• Release of Information & Record Retention: manage requests and maintain compliant filing, retention, and destruction systems.
• Census Management & Data Integrity: maintain daily census data, case mix changes, and pay status with audit trails and ICD coding.
• Admission & Ongoing Records Management: coordinate admissions, maintain medical records, audits, and signatures.
• Discharge Record Completion & Quality Review: oversee discharge documentation and ensure timely physician completion.
• Department Leadership, QAPI & Collaboration: supervise HI staff and support HIPAA compliance and resident rights.
