Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is looking for a Financial Counselor (CAC) to assess health coverage eligibility for MassHealth, QHPs, CHIP, and related programs. You will guide patients and families, coordinate with Health Connector, and manage enrollment documentation.

Strong data-entry, organization, and customer service skills are essential, with ability to work in a fast-paced health system and support multiple departments.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in healthcare, accounts receivable, Financial Counseling, medical billing, or related field.
• Proficient data-entry and strong organization skills with attention to detail.
• Effective communication and customer service skills both verbal and written.
• Ability to use specialized applications and scheduling systems for patient registration.
• Ability to work independently with strong problem resolution skills.

Responsibilities

• Interviews, screens and assesses applicants and family members in a variety of on campus locations.
• Determines qualification for affordable health insurance coverage including premium tax credits and assistance programs.
• Facilitates enrollment through Health Connector or other program applications.
• Follows up with patients to obtain confidential financial and medical information for eligibility.
• Acts as liaison for patients with MassHealth and Health Connector to resolve eligibility issues.
• Discusses financial obligations with patients prior to elective procedures and admissions.
