Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Financial Counselor (Certified Application Counselor) to assess health coverage eligibility and guide patients through enrollment processes. You will work across MassHealth, Health Connector, and related programs, with emphasis on accurate data collection and patient support.

Responsibilities include interviewing applicants, determining program qualification, and coordinating with multiple departments to ensure access to care and timely enrollment.

Qualifications

• Required: High School Graduate.
• CAC certification required within 45 days of hire.
• Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in Business, Social Services or related field.

Responsibilities

• Interview applicants and assess eligibility for health coverage.
• Determine qualification for affordable health insurance including APTC and other programs.
• Facilitate enrollment through Health Connector Health Insurance Exchange.
• Follow up with patients to obtain confidential financial and medical information.
• Act as liaison for MassHealth, Health Connector and Health Safety Net.
• Provide price estimates per federal price transparency rules.
• Work in EPIC queues to identify uninsured/underinsured patients for assistance.
• Coordinate with clinicians, interpreters, social workers and other teams to ensure access to care.
• Discuss financial obligations before elective surgeries or admissions.
• Update accounts with current status and eligibility dates.
