Varsity Assistant Outdoor Track & Field Coach
North Middlesex Regional High School
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a qualified, motivated, and student-centered candidate for the position of Varsity Assistant Outdoor Track & Field Coach.
- Assist the Head Coach with the organization and daily operation of the outdoor track and field program.
- Assist in planning and conducting organized, purposeful practices.
- Provide instruction and supervision for assigned event groups, which may include sprints, distance, hurdles, relays, jumps, throws, or other events based on program needs and coaching expertise.
- Teach proper fundamentals, techniques, training principles, and safety procedures for assigned events.
- Develop student-athletes with varying levels of experience and ability, from first-time participants through postseason competitors.
- Assist with implementing training plans established in collaboration with the Head Coach.
- Provide student-athletes with constructive instruction, feedback, and opportunities for continued development.
- Assist with identifying appropriate events for student-athletes based on their abilities, interests, development, and team needs.
- Assist with meet entries, relay teams, event assignments, timing, results, and other meet-day responsibilities as assigned.
- Promote effort, accountability, respect, teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship, personal improvement, and academic responsibility.
- Reinforce program expectations regarding attendance, behavior, effort, safety, and team responsibilities.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions, including event areas, locker rooms, facilities, and transportation locations.
- Communicate professionally with student-athletes, families, coaches, administrators, officials, and opposing programs.
- Support and reinforce the Athletic Department's communication protocol.
- Prioritize student-athlete health and safety and follow all applicable emergency, concussion, weather, heat, and return-to-play procedures.
- Ensure proper safety procedures and supervision when student-athletes are using specialized track and field equipment.
- Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, storage, inventory, uniforms, and facility preparation.
- Attend required practices, meets, coaching staff meetings, Athletic Department meetings, and other program activities.
- Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and other assistant coaches to provide consistent instruction and appropriate supervision across the program.
- Follow all North Middlesex Regional School District, Athletic Department, Mid-Wach League, and MIAA policies, rules, and procedures.
- Represent North Middlesex Athletics professionally and model appropriate conduct and sportsmanship.
- Perform additional program-related duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
- Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous track and field coaching and/or competitive experience.
- Knowledge and experience in one or more track and field event areas.
- Previous high school coaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge of track and field fundamentals, rules, techniques, training principles, and safety procedures.
- Ability to effectively teach student-athletes with a wide range of experience and ability levels.
- Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to independently manage and supervise an assigned event group while working collaboratively within the overall coaching staff.
- Willingness to assist across multiple event areas based on program needs.
- Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, competitive, safe, and development-focused environment.
- Commitment to student-athlete academic achievement, character development, sportsmanship, personal improvement, and overall well-being.
- Completion of all required district and MIAA coaching certifications prior to participation.
- The successful candidate will embrace a program-first approach and understand the importance of collaboration across all track and field event groups. The Varsity Assistant Coach should be committed to developing student-athletes, supporting the Head Coach, and contributing wherever needed to the success of the overall North Middlesex Outdoor Track & Field Program.
