Head Unified Track & Field Coach
North Middlesex Regional High School
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a qualified, motivated, and student-centered candidate for the position of Head Unified Track & Field Coach.
The Head Unified Track & Field Coach is responsible for providing a positive, inclusive, competitive, and developmentally appropriate experience for all members of the North Middlesex Unified Track & Field Program.
The successful candidate will embrace the mission of Unified Sports by creating meaningful opportunities for Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners to train, compete, develop relationships, and experience the benefits of belonging to a school athletic team.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, organization, and direction for the North Middlesex Unified Track & Field Program.
- Create an inclusive team environment in which Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners are valued and meaningful members of the program.
- Plan and conduct organized, purposeful, and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Teach proper track and field fundamentals, techniques, rules, and competition procedures.
- Provide appropriate instruction, modifications, and support based on individual student-athlete needs and abilities.
- Promote meaningful participation and appropriate competitive involvement for all team members.
- Foster positive and authentic relationships between Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners.
- Promote independence, confidence, teamwork, communication, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
- Establish clear expectations for attendance, effort, accountability, behavior, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Develop student-athletes with a wide range of abilities and experience levels while recognizing and celebrating individual improvement.
- Coordinate event assignments, meet entries, and competition responsibilities.
- Ensure Unified partners understand their role in supporting meaningful participation, inclusion, and appropriate competition.
- Work collaboratively with assistant coaches, school staff, special education staff, and the Athletic Department to support student-athlete needs.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions, including transportation locations and athletic facilities.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with student-athletes, families, coaches, administrators, officials, and opposing programs.
- Prioritize student-athlete health and safety and follow all applicable emergency, concussion, weather, heat, and return-to-play procedures.
- Assist student-athletes with transitions, routines, communication, and other supports when appropriate.
- Manage program equipment, uniforms, inventory, and other resources in coordination with the Athletic Department.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Athletics regarding scheduling, transportation, facilities, staffing, competition entries, and other program needs.
- Promote awareness and support of Unified Sports throughout the North Middlesex school community.
- Attend required Athletic Department, Unified Sports, league, and postseason meetings.
- Follow all North Middlesex Regional School District, Athletic Department, MIAA, and applicable Special Olympics Unified Sports policies, rules, and procedures.
- Represent North Middlesex Athletics professionally and model inclusion, respect, sportsmanship, and appropriate conduct.
- Perform additional program-related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous coaching experience and/or experience working with Unified Sports.
- Previous experience working with students with intellectual disabilities preferred.
- Track and field coaching, competitive, or instructional experience preferred.
- Knowledge of track and field fundamentals, events, rules, and safety procedures.
- Understanding of the philosophy and purpose of Unified Sports and the athlete-partner model.
- Ability to appropriately adapt instruction to meet a wide range of student-athlete abilities and needs.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, patience, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to create an environment that promotes inclusion while maintaining the expectations and identity of an interscholastic athletic program.
- Commitment to meaningful participation for both Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners.
- Commitment to student-athlete development, sportsmanship, teamwork, independence, and overall well-being.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with families, school staff, special education personnel, coaches, and the Athletic Department.
- Completion of all required district, MIAA, and applicable Unified Sports coaching requirements prior to participation.
The successful candidate will understand that Unified Sports is an interscholastic athletic experience centered on meaningful inclusion, competition, teamwork, and belonging. The Head Coach will establish a team culture in which Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners train and compete together, develop authentic relationships, and represent North Middlesex Athletics with pride.
Success will be measured through meaningful participation, student growth, competitive development, teamwork, inclusion, sportsmanship, and the overall student-athlete experience.

Salary: $3,032 to $3,032 Stipend
