Job summary

The Y of Central Maryland seeks a dedicated Head Start Teacher to lead a classroom of 17–20 children aged 3 to 4 in partnership with another teacher. You will implement the curriculum, focus on child growth, and work with families and related services to support every child’s development.

You will plan daily lessons, track progress, and adapt activities to meet diverse abilities while maintaining a safe, nurturing environment aligned with the Y’s mission and policies.

Qualifications

• Must possess Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA) and/or Bachelor's Degree in Education
• Must obtain a criminal background check.
• Basic computer literacy email, word processing and internet navigation

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver daily lesson plans; post for parents, volunteers and visitors.
• Develop individualized plans for each child based on identified needs.
• Address challenging behaviors and collaborate with families to support the child at home.
• Implement a child-centered curriculum and learning environment promoting positive social interaction.
• Document children’s progress using observations and anecdotal notes.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions and workshops.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold Y policies and procedures.
