Job summary

The Y in Central Maryland is hiring a Head Start Assistant Teacher to support classroom teachers, center administration, and family advocates in delivering a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children of all abilities.

You will help ensure health, safety, and regulatory compliance while fostering social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative growth. This is a mission-driven role in a supportive, inclusive environment that prioritizes well-being and community impact.

Qualifications

• Interest in the well-being and education of young children.
• Some prior early childhood experience.
• Ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates.
• Child Development Associate certification.
• 90 hour child care certification and 9 hours in communication.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, center administration, family advocates and family members to implement curriculum to achieve outcomes for children of all abilities and ensure successful operation of the program.
• Ensure health, welfare, and safety of the children in the program and contribute to safety and regulatory compliance.
• Contribute to the development of social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative growth of each child in your care.
