Job summary

The Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) is a private nonprofit serving rural, low-income households in Caroline, Cecil, and Kent Counties. MRDC operates as the official Community Action Agency for those counties.

MRDC seeks a Head Start Teacher to develop and implement individualized education plans for 3- to 5-year-old children, collaborating with the Site Supervisor and MRDC team to deliver developmentally appropriate instruction and supportive services.

• Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse families.

Responsibilities

• Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool children per guidance from leaders and individualize instruction as needed.
• Refer children suspected of having special needs to appropriate staff.
• Implement behavior plans and IEPs with the team, families, schools, and mental health professionals to create the least restrictive environment.
• Guide and facilitate activities of the children, including daily activities, field trips, and arranging materials.
• Cooperate with staff to maintain smooth center functioning and adjust to meet children’s needs.
• Maintain portfolios with weekly observations and developmental assessments.
• Foster a positive learning atmosphere encouraging creativity and exploration.
• Maintain a clean, safe classroom and supervise children at all times.
• Attend trainings and staff meetings to enhance professional skills.
• Ensure files are complete, accurate, and confidential.
• Be punctual, focused, and able to work under stress.
• Perform related duties as required by supervisor or director.
