Job summary

Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) seeks a Head Start Teacher Assistant to support the Head Start Teacher in creating a safe, engaging learning environment for preschool children. You will assist with lesson planning, activities, behavior management, and daily routines while promoting school readiness and social-emotional development.

You will help maintain a clean classroom, support family engagement, and ensure MRDC philosophies are met.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; CDA credential or coursework in ECE preferred.
• Experience with preschool children is preferred.
• Must pass criminal background check and fingerprinting; Maryland licensing requirements apply.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Start Teacher in planning and implementing lessons.
• Engage children in developmentally appropriate activities.
• Observe and assess development for individualized plans.
• Support families and promote parental involvement.
• Maintain a clean, organized learning space and classroom routines.
• Follow Head Start health and safety policies and procedures.
• Assist with meals, naptime, and transitions.
• Collaborate with staff and program administrators.
• Attend required trainings and meetings.
