Job summary

VOALA is seeking a Head Start Co-Teacher (Substitute) for East/West/Central LA to provide a nurturing, developmentally appropriate classroom experience for children ages 0–5. The role involves planning activities, observing development, and collaborating with families to support learning and growth.

Responsibilities include daily scheduling for morning and afternoon sessions, aligning with Head Start standards, and ensuring health and safety in a dynamic setting.

Qualifications

• Must pass fingerprint clearance and background check.
• Access to automobile with adequate auto insurance and a valid CA driver’s license.
• TB clearance within 6 months; annual flu vaccination; pertussis and measles immunization.
• Health screening required at time of employment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move about actively with children.

Responsibilities

• Provide a developmentally appropriate environment with varied activities to support social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.
• Plan daily classroom activities for morning and afternoon sessions.
• Observe, screen, and assess children's development and set individualized goals.
• Collaborate with parents to reinforce learning and involve families in the program.
• Ensure health, safety, and licensing standards are maintained in the classroom.
• Other duties as required by program needs.
