Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a Head Start Co-Teacher (Substitute) to provide a nurturing classroom environment for children ages 0–5, delivering developmentally appropriate activities and careful observations to support growth in social, emotional, and cognitive domains. On-site role requires fingerprint clearance, transportation access, and compliance with health and safety standards.

Preferred candidates hold ECE units or higher, and bilingual skills are valued to engage

Qualifications

• Must pass fingerprint clearance and background checks.
• Must have access to automobile with adequate insurance or reliable transport.
• TB clearance within 6 months, annual influenza vaccination, pertussis and measles immunization.
• Health screening at time of employment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and move quickly.

Responsibilities

• Provide activities that support social, emotional, and cognitive development.
• Conduct daily classroom planning and maintain records.
• Observe, screen, and assess children’s developmental levels.
• Support parents as primary educators of their children.
• Ensure learning environment reflects diverse cultural backgrounds.

Skills

Bilingual English/Spanish

Driver's license

Education

High School Diploma or GED with 12 ECE units

Enrolled in VOALA apprenticeship certification

AA in ECE/CD with 24 units

Associate Teacher Child Development Permit or higher
