Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles (VOALA) is hiring a Head Start Co-Teacher (Substitute) to provide a safe and enriching environment for children aged 0–5, serving in San Fernando Valley/Santa Clarita campuses. The role requires on-site work, observation and development assessments, and collaboration with families and staff.

This position offers a pay rate of $21.57–$21.60 per hour, with mandated health and safety requirements, fingerprint clearance, and travel to various sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass fingerprint clearance and background checks
• Must have access to automobile with adequate insurance or reliable transportation to multiple sites
• TB clearance within 6 months prior
• Annual influenza vaccination (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
• Pertussis and measles immunization
• Health screening at time of employment
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities as required

Responsibilities

• Provide a learning environment with varied activities to support social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development
• Conduct daily classroom planning and maintain student records and monthly paperwork
• Observe and assess children’s developmental levels and set goals
• Provide activities that involve parents as the prime educators of their children
• Create a learning space reflecting diverse cultural backgrounds and comply with licensing and safety standards
• Carry out other duties as needed to meet program requirements

Skills

Experience working with children

Bilingual English and Spanish

Education

High School Diploma or GED + 12 ECE units

VOALA apprenticeship certification enrollment

AA in ECE/CD (24 CD units)

Associate Teacher Child Development Permit or higher
