Job summary

VOALA in Los Angeles is seeking a Head Start Co-Teacher (Substitute) to provide a nurturing classroom for children ages 0–5, with activities to foster social, emotional, intellectual and physical development in an age-appropriate setting.

The role involves planning lessons, coordinating with teachers and families, observing development, and ensuring health and safety. On-site work is required daily.

Qualifications

• Must pass fingerprint clearance and background checks.
• Automobile access with valid CA driver’s license or reliable transportation.
• TB clearance, annual influenza vaccination, pertussis and measles immunization.
• Health screening prior to employment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move quickly in a busy environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide varied activities to develop social, emotional, intellectual and physical skills.
• Plan daily classroom activities and maintain records with the Teacher.
• Observe and assess children’s developmental levels and set goals.
• Deliver a planned program and involve parents as prime educators.
• Ensure the learning environment reflects diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain health and safety per licensing requirements.
• Perform other duties as required and may change.

High School Diploma or GED with 12 ECE units

Enrolled in or completed VOALA apprenticeship certification
