Job summary

CAPITOL REGION EDUCATION COUNCIL seeks a Head Start Teacher Assistant to support planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum, promote self-esteem and independence, and ensure health, safety, and nutrition are integrated into daily activities.

The assistant will work under the teacher, help write daily/weekly plans, supervise children, assist with field trips and parent volunteers, and participate in meetings and trainings to support CREC's Head Start program.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or equivalent training.
• Knowledge of CT Early Learning Standards and related frameworks is preferred.
• Ability to perform physically active tasks and assist in classrooms.
• Experience in Head Start or similar program is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and complete assignments in support of daily classroom program under teacher guidance.
• Provide instruction and care for children.
• Assist Teacher in writing daily and weekly lesson plans.
• Ensure safe, well-equipped classroom with appropriate supplies.
• Assist with parent volunteers and coordinating classroom volunteers.
• Assist with writing reports and completing forms.
• Help arrange field trips and home visits; order supplies.
• Attend staff and parent meetings and training sessions.
• Support program operations in the absence of the teacher.
• Implement Head Start standards and CREC policies.
