Job summary

The Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) seeks a Head Start Teacher Assistant to support the classroom teacher in a safe, engaging setting for preschool children. This eleven-month, full-time role assists with instruction, behavior management, and daily activities to promote school readiness and social-emotional development.

You will help maintain a clean, organized learning space, support family engagement, and ensure MRDC philosophies and priorities are met in daily practice.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; CDA credential or ECE coursework preferred.
• Experience with preschool-aged children is preferred.
• Ability to follow directions and adapt to classroom needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Start Teacher in planning and implementing lessons.
• Engage children in play-based, reading, and hands-on activities.
• Observe and support development and learning plans.
• Model positive social-emotional behaviors and problem-solving.
• Supervise and maintain a safe, clean classroom environment.
• Support meals, naptime, and transitions; follow health and safety policies.
• Build relationships with families and encourage involvement.
• Attend trainings and collaborate with staff and administrators.
• Maintain confidential files and meet licensing requirements.
