Job summary

Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is seeking a Head Start Teacher Assistant to support early childhood education in our Head Start/Early Head Start programs in Connecticut. Work under the Teacher to implement age-appropriate curriculum and ensure health, safety, and nutrition education are integrated.

The role supports planning, supervision, and interaction with children, families, and staff, with emphasis on creating a positive learning environment and meeting required standards.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent in Early Childhood education.
• CT Early Childhood Certificate or CDA credential.
• Experience with Head Start or similar program preferred.
• Knowledge of behavior management techniques for children.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Plan and complete assignments in support of daily classroom activities under guidance of the Teacher.
• Provide instruction and care for children in the Head Start program.
• Help write daily and weekly lesson plans with the Teacher.
• Maintain safe, clean, and organized classroom equipment and supplies.
• Recruit and support parent volunteers in the classroom.
• Assist with required reports and forms.
• Help arrange field trips and home visits and order supplies.
• Attend staff and parent meetings and participate in professional development.
• Cover program operations in the absence of the teacher.
• Implement Head Start standards and CREC policies.
