Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree (RHIT) or Bachelor’s Degree (RHIA) in Health Information Management.
• Minimum of three years’ supervisory experience in health information management, preferably in a psychiatric facility.
• RHIA or RHIT certification per AHIMA.

Responsibilities

• Direct the Health Information Management service department per regulatory standards.
• Consult with management to ensure patient records meet licensing requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality of medical records and control disclosures.
• Inform staff about confidentiality policies and current laws.
• Lead staff and manage staffing needs for the department.
• Monitor accuracy and compliance of medical records with state and federal rules.
• Coordinate with other hospital HIM departments and respond to inquiries.
• Oversee subpoenas and legal requests regarding medical records.
• Monitor ICD-10 coding and abstract patient information for state reporting.
• Prepare statistical reports and participate in committees and data analysis.
• Stay current on HIM laws and pursue ongoing professional development.
• Ensure accreditation and keep up with AHIMA standards.

Education

Associate’s Degree (RHIT) or Bachelor’s Degree (RHIA) in Health Information Management
