Job summary

Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital is seeking a Health Information Management Director to lead the HIM department and ensure accurate, secure patient records in a compliant environment. The role partners with clinicians, Revenue Cycle, and Compliance to optimize workflows and support regulatory reporting.

The ideal candidate will have HIM leadership experience, knowledge of HIPAA/privacy regulations, and strong collaboration skills to drive improvements across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred; applicable HIM/healthcare experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Experience in Health Information Management/Medical Records within an acute-care hospital environment.
• Working knowledge of HIM operations, HIPAA, patient privacy, confidentiality, and healthcare regulatory/compliance standards.
• General knowledge of inpatient and outpatient coding processes; hands-on coding experience is not required.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and manage employees; onsite and remote staff experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directs day-to-day operations of the Health Information Management department, ensuring compliant management of patient health information.
• Provides leadership and oversight to onsite HIM staff and remote CDI team members, including scheduling and staff development.
• Serves as Privacy Officer, guiding HIPAA and patient privacy matters.
• Oversees Release of Information operations and liaises with the ROI vendor.
• Monitors coding queues and interacts with Revenue Cycle and other departments to resolve issues.
• Supports CDI program and provider education opportunities.
• Oversees vital-record processes and regulatory reporting responsibilities.
• Maintains compliance with federal/state regulations and accreditation standards.
