Job summary

Northwestern Mutual is seeking an Assistant Director, Government Relations to lead the company’s grassroots program and manage the Wisconsin PACs. This role works with the Vice President of Government Relations and coordinates across multiple internal teams.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in PACs, government relations, and political fundraising, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently, including travel (>10%).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in PACs, political fundraising, government relations and/or legislative environments.
• Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills.
• PowerPoint and Excel experience, and a high level of comfort with new technologies.
• The position requires the ability to work independently on a regular basis.
• The position requires some travel (>10% of the time.)

Responsibilities

• Grassroots Management: oversee all grassroots activities including delegate program, Capitol Hill fly-ins, and advocacy campaigns.
• Lead strategic initiatives to enhance grassroots capabilities across the country.
• Serve as main contact for grassroots advocates and coordinate outreach opportunities.
• Oversee grassroots coordination with agent trade associations.
• Coordinate with internal teams and contractors on grassroots technology projects.
• Develop and distribute communications for grassroots activities, including a monthly newsletter.
• Maintain internal and public-facing political advocacy websites and related databases.
