Job summary

GAF is seeking a Director of Automation and Control Systems to lead the Automation and Controls team across manufacturing facilities. You will partner with engineering to foster continuous innovation and align with manufacturing optimization initiatives, driving operational support and strategic input to capital plans.

The role requires engineering leadership, 10+ years in manufacturing, and strong expertise in automation projects, CAD/HMI/PLC tools, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (required).
• 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
• Experience leading Automation & Controls projects across multiple locations.
• Proven leadership of teams, direct or indirect.
• Strong relationship-building and partnerships.
• Working knowledge of CAD, HMI, PLCs, G-Suite, and diagnostics tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage all functions of Automation and Controls group.
• Contribute to 3 & 5 year capital plans for manufacturing facilities.
• Collaborate with IT, Process Services, Corporate Engineering and R&D to integrate Automation and Controls.
• Oversee capital projects, budgets, and financial reporting for the team.
• Lead engineering practices and app implementation; ensure safety and mitigation of obsolescence.
• Promote safety, education, and a culture of integrity with customers.
