Job summary

Janus Henderson Investors is seeking a Head of Application Engineering to define the strategic direction for the firm's application development. You will lead a high-performing team building and operating scalable systems, modernising the landscape with cloud-native and AI capabilities.

You will align engineering with business goals across Investments, Distribution and Operations, driving secure, resilient software delivery and measurable business impact through technology excellence.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years in senior engineering leadership within financial services.
• Led application engineering teams across multiple locations.
• Expert in cloud-native development, microservices, containerisation, CI/CD and IaC.
• Experience embedding AI/ML in production applications.
• Strong executive communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Define multi-year engineering strategy for the application portfolio.
• Drive cloud-native transition and microservices-based architectures.
• Establish standards for code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, and production readiness.
• Lead end-to-end delivery of the modernisation programme.
• Ensure secure SDLC and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee production stability, incident management and on-call processes.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Infrastructure, Data Engineering and business units.
