Job summary

Toast is seeking a Head of Developer & Agent Experience to lead the design and delivery of Toast’s AI-native engineering platform. You will shape the model access layer, tooling, and developer workflows, partnering with Product, Engineering and Design to embed AI across the SDLC.

You will own dashboards, cost optimization, and governance while building an organization focused on platform engineering for AI and agent systems, enabling scalable, reusable workflows across teams.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software engineering, with senior leadership experience.
• Experience building and scaling developer platforms and internal engineering systems.
• Familiarity with prompt engineering, cost models, and governance in AI tooling.

Responsibilities

• Define and deliver the core AI-native development platform and model access layer.
• Design AI-driven development systems to convert specs into executable code, tests, docs, and infra.
• Re-architect inner/outer loops to reduce friction in PRs, reviews, and deployments.
• Partner with Engineering, Product and Design to standardize AI tool usage across R&D.
• Define north-star metrics and own dashboards and feedback loops for cost, routing and governance.
• Build and lead a focused AI platform engineering organization.
• Oversee human-facing developer experience, tooling, and service catalogs.
• Ensure model-agnostic harness design and portability across vendors.
