Job summary

AIOS is seeking a Head of AI Engineering to build the AIOS Agent SDK and establish it as the foundation for world-class agents across the company. You will separate reusable foundations from customer-specific logic, while advancing a healthcare-focused decision-support system.

The role is fully remote, senior, and reports to the VP of Engineering. You will own architecture, drive safety and compliance, manage toolchains, and guide integration with existing infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and active production contributor.
• “Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or closely related field.”
• “Production Agents: built and shipped an exceptional agentic system used by real customers.”
• “Agent Architecture: reasoning about harnesses, orchestration, context construction, retrieval, memory, state, tool design.”
• “Evals: built evaluation systems for probabilistic products with offline->production link.”
• “Software Engineering: strong systems fundamentals, APIs, distributed systems, observability.”
• “Consequential Actions: authorization, validation, idempotency, auditability, recovery, escalation.”
• “Open-Weight Models: lead fine-tuning and production deployment when warranted.”
• “Leadership: led a small technical engineering team and set direction.”
• “Communication: explain complex ideas to engineers, clinicians, and executives.”

Responsibilities

• Turn Jesse’s harness into the internal platform powering Jesse, Aegis, and future AIOS agents.
• Own architecture, primitives, extension points, developer experience, and integration.
• Build trustworthy benchmarks with deterministic checks and model-based graders.
• Turn traces and incidents into stronger evals and platform capabilities.
• Encode safety, privacy, security, and regional requirements into the platform.
• Lead data preparation, fine-tuning, and deployment of open-weight models when appropriate.
• Set AIOS AI architecture and strategy in partnership with VP of Engineering.
• Hire and grow the Applied AI team to ~5 engineers in year one.
