Job summary

Podium, a leader in AI agents for local businesses, seeks a Senior Director of Engineering to own the AI Agents platform and scale its operations for thousands of customer workflows. This hands-on leadership role demands architectural vision, execution excellence, and a strong track record of delivering reliable, scalable AI-powered solutions.

You will build and mentor a team, shape the roadmap, and partner with Product and Infra to drive business outcomes through cutting-edge AI capabilities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles such as Director or Head of Engineering.
• Direct experience building and operating production LLM-powered or agentic systems serving real users at scale.
• Deep fluency in applied AI architecture: orchestration, tool-calling, RAG, context management, latency vs. cost tradeoffs.
• Experience leading both 0→1 builds and 1→scale hardening, with reliable production systems.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration with Product, Infrastructure, and customer-facing teams.
• Hands-on fluency with modern AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) as part of how you build.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and roadmap for Podium's AI agent platform, including orchestration, tool-use frameworks, memory, and reasoning systems.
• Lead and grow a team of engineers building and operating production agent systems, remaining hands-on in design, code, and incident response.
• Build and mature evaluation infrastructure to measure agent quality and ship improvements with confidence.
• Drive 0-to-1 development and 1-to-scale hardening of agent capabilities and workflows for tens of millions of conversations.
• Partner with Product to translate business outcomes into agent capabilities and prioritized technical bets.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure/Platform teams to ensure observability, cost-efficiency, and resilience at scale.
• Engage with customers and customer-facing teams to gather feedback and feed signals into the roadmap.
• Establish best practices for prompt/context engineering, testing, safety, guardrails, and responsible deployment.
• Represent AI Agents engineering in leadership discussions, articulating risk and tradeoffs.
