Job summary

Backbone Underground Inc is seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our team in coastal North Carolina. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and experienced in underground utility construction, comfortable operating HDD equipment, and working as part of a crew in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include safely operating HDD equipment, performing underground bores, reading bore plans and job specs, inspecting and maintaining gear, and

Qualifications

• Experience operating HDD equipment and performing underground bores.
• Knowledge of HDD operations and underground utility construction.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic drilling and equipment issues.
• Must be dependable and able to work well with a crew.

Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform underground bores for utility installation.
• Read and follow bore plans, utility markings, and job specifications.
• Monitor drilling conditions and adjust as needed; assist with setup/breakdown of drilling equipment.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
• Work closely with locators, equipment operators, and ground crew.
• Follow all safety requirements and keep the site clean and organized.
• Assist the crew to complete projects safely and on schedule.
