Job description

Overview

R+L Carriers has an immediate opening for a Safety Hazmat Technician in our Kansas City, MO service center office. Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Hazmat Technician is responsible for the performance of tasks associated with emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials clean-up, site-remediation, equipment decontamination, handling of hazardous materials, and other duties as required. 2nd and 3rd shift available.

Responsibilities

• Perform emergency response tasks and hazardous/non-hazardous materials cleanup
• Participate in site remediation and equipment decontamination activities
• Handle hazardous materials in accordance with procedures and safety regulations
• Follow R+L Carriers procedures for waste/re-use product containerization and completing safety documentation
• Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response
• Set up and participate in live training events to ensure personnel competency
• Audit incoming/outgoing hazardous materials shipments for compliance
• Coach co-workers on unsafe behaviors observed
• Participate in specialized scheduled projects as required
• Utilize Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) effectively
• Maintain exceptional interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills
• Handle multiple tasks with attention to detail

Requirements

• 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required
• Wear proper personal protective equipment as required by OSHA and industry health standards
• Work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments
• Inform the management team of issues on jobs in a timely manner
• Update job notes daily
• Physically fit; able to lift 75 lbs
• Able to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced, team-supported environment
• Experience operating tools applicable to emergency response activities
• Want to lead safety aspects of emergency response
• Ability to coach others and participate in training
• Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
