Job description

Safety Hazmat Technician

Starting $75,000.00- $85,000.00

2nd and 3rd Shift Available

Location: Chicago, IL service center office

Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Hazmat Technician is responsible for the performance of tasks associated with emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials clean‑up, site‑remediation, equipment decontamination, handling of hazardous materials, and other duties as required.

Requirements

• 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required
• Wear proper personal protective equipment when required based on OSHA and industry health standards
• Work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments
• Inform the management team of issues that arise on jobs in a timely manner
• Update job notes daily
• Physically fit; able to lift 75 lbs.
• Able to thrive in a high‑pressure and fast‑paced team‑supported environment
• Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, including following company procedures, properly containerizing waste/re‑use products, completing safety documentation, and upholding a high level of safety
• Experience operating tools applicable to emergency response activities
• Set up and participate in live training events to ensure the competency of personnel
• Audit incoming/outgoing hazardous materials shipments for compliance
• Ability and willingness to coach co‑workers on unsafe behaviors observed
• Willing to participate in specialized scheduled projects as required
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, and problem‑solving skills
• Proven ability to work in a confidential capacity
• Ability to handle multiple tasks while being detail oriented
